Thanks to the outstanding generosity of TD Bank Group, Toronto Rehab administers a scholarship to break down barriers and engage people with disabilities in a meaningful way in rehabilitation research.

The TD Graduate Scholarships for People with Disabilities at Toronto Rehab award up to $20,000 annually to exemplary Master’s Degree and PhD students. Originally founded in 2005, TD Bank Group announced a new visionary $1-million investment in the scholarships in 2016 through their support of the $100-million Where Incredible Happens Campaign. Part of this investment will help establish a permanent endowment to generate ongoing support to ensure this program continues indefinitely.

“Through this scholarship, Toronto Rehab and TD Bank are sending a very powerful message that students with disabilities can make a valuable contribution to research,” says TD Scholar Anita Kaiser. “They are also saying that individuals with disabilities have an important role to play in society.”

Too often students with disabilities experience barriers to completing post-secondary studies. Challenges related to housing, transportation, assistive devices and services can hinder, if not eliminate, access to opportunities.

Approximately only one in 10 working-age adults living with disability has a university degree, compared to one in five without disabilities. Even fewer adults with disabilities go on to complete a graduate degree.

TD Graduate Scholars have gone on to work in healthcare, academia and the private sector as consultants, clinicians and research associates. Award winners exemplify the Toronto Rehab’s values of caring, innovation, integrity, and teamwork.

“TD’s investment is building a solid foundation for innovation that will raise our global impact to new heights,” said Cindy Yelle, President & CEO, Toronto Rehab Foundation. “Thank you to TD Bank for Making Incredible Happen!”
