Bell Canada

Let’s Connect, a new Toronto Rehab program supported by the Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund, will deliver mental health early intervention services to patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) as well as education workshops to clinicians and communities.

Depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are prevalent in those who have suffered an SCI and can inhibit their ability to optimize physical rehabilitation and successfully reintegrate back into the community. Suicide rates are five times greater during the first five years following an SCI.

Home to the country’s largest rehabilitation centre for individuals with SCI, Toronto Rehab is shining a spotlight on this important new Mental Health initiative currently being developed for our patients and community.

Topics will include managing anxiety, depression, adapting to changes in life post-injury, community re-integration, and aspects of mindfulness-based pain and stress management techniques. Let’s Connect will provide invaluable psychological support, peer connectedness and education platforms to improve access and quality of mental health assistance for individuals at Toronto Rehab.

We thank Bell Canada for its generous gift of $30,000 to seed this important program addressing the mental health needs of patients with spinal cord injury.
