Donald Ross, OC

Dynamic philanthropist and financier Donald Ross, OC, has invested more than 50 years in the investment business in Toronto and Montreal. He was recently named to the Order of Canada for his wide-ranging and largely anonymous philanthropic contributions in support of educational, social service, cultural, environmental and health care causes.

Mr. Ross started his financial career with HSBC – London and has more than 50 years in the investment business in Toronto and Montreal. He is the Chairman of investment dealer Jones Gable & Company Limited. He has developed a successful career in the financial business that has inspired and facilitated numerous philanthropic and community contributions.

He is a volunteer and generous benefactor to many health, environment, education, and arts institutions. Currently, he is a member of the boards of Ontario Arts Foundation, Soulpepper Theatre Company and Lakefield College School Foundation. He continues to support a number of resource and other start-up companies.

In 2004, Mr. Ross was awarded the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Distinguished Service Award for his long-time commitment to financing companies in the junior mining sector.

Recently, Mr. Ross led a successful fundraising challenge to name Toronto Rehab's Lydhurst Centre lobby in honour of his late friend and Lyndhurst co-founder John Counsell. He continues as an active volunteer at Toronto Rehab, garnering support for spinal cord rehabilitation and sleep apnea research.

Toronto Rehab was honoured to pay tribute to Mr. Ross at the 2013 Red Rose Ball.
