Lifetime Achievement Award for TRI Scientist

Toronto Rehab’s Dr. Catriona Steele was named the 2016 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).

The award recognizes Dr. Steele as a leader within the field of speech language pathology—a field in which she has published over 120 research articles and serves as the leader of the research work stream for the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative.

At Toronto Rehab, her research program explores the pathophysiology of dysphagia (swallowing impairment) with a focus on motor function during swallowing; the use of tongue pressure resistance training as a treatment for dysphagia; and the development of medical devices to help detect swallowing impairments.

Dr. Steele is a Senior Scientist at Toronto Rehab and, in 2003, founded the Swallowing Rehabilitation Research Laboratory at Toronto Rehab. She is one of many doctors, scientists and clinicians who have helped make Toronto Rehab the number one rehabilitation research centre in the world and truly be Where Incredible Happens.

To ensure that the best proven rehabilitation research and technology are available to our patients and the community now and in the future, Toronto Rehab has launched a historic $100-million fundraising campaign. Learn more
