An Incredible Year at Toronto Rehab

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making 2016 an incredible year of discoveries and care at Toronto Rehab.

A few highlights from the past year:

We celebrated a Canadian-first in spinal cord rehab by successfully completing and achieving 100 per cent in the Spinal Cord Injury Rehab Accreditation standards developed by the Rick Hansen Institute in partnership with Accreditation Canada. more

Exceptional progress has been made in our work with seniors. For example, CityNews visited Toronto Rehab’s Lakeside Long-Term Care Centre in the spring to showcase how Dr. Pia Kontos’ research in elder clowning is benefiting dementia residents. more

The multi-year redevelopment project is well underway at our Bickle Centre for Complex Continuing Care to greatly improve patient safety, independent living and rehabilitative care.  This summer, a wheelchair accessible garden for patients and staff opened for patients to practice walking, learn about nutrition, and harvest foods for use in their cooking program. more

This fall we launched the Sun Life Financial Diabetes College as part of our Health e-University to help improve wellness around the globe through diabetes prevention and management.  Thank you to Sun Life Financial for their $1-million commitment that made this possible. more

We celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a $1-million commitment from TD Bank Group to help sustain the TD Graduate Scholarships for People with Disabilities at Toronto Rehab. These scholarships help open doors to careers in rehabilitation research for top graduate students with disabilities and empower them to become world-class scientists. more

In December, our research teams garnered international publicity for their work on creating the first protocol of its kind for testing the slip resistance of winter boots on icy surfaces using real people in a simulated environment. Thanks to the WinterLab team and their fantastic work, Toronto Rehab is helping our communities choose safer footwear to help avoid slips, falls and visits to the emergency room this winter. more

And, we have a new video for you to share with family and friends so that they can learn why Toronto Rehab is Where Incredible Happens.
