2014 UHN Research Report now available

The 2014 UHN Research Report, titled “Medicine Gets Personal” is now available. Through key stories and features, this publication highlights some of the diverse ways in which UHN research contributes to tailoring medicine and care for individuals.

The stories focus on selected discoveries from UHN’s talented researchers across various fields (genetics, imaging, rehabilitation, nanotechnology) and the potential impact of their research on personalized medicine. The report also highlights notable research events, awards and important contributions made by our generous donors.

Dr. Susan Jaglal, holder of The Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Chair at the University of Toronto, is featured on this year’s cover. Her research is aimed at optimizing the health care system so that people receive the best rehabilitation care in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

Page 29 of the Report features Toronto Rehab’s Fred A. Litwin Outpatient Centre where patients can access the latest therapies being developed by researchers at Toronto Rehab.  For example, patients with paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury and stroke can now have their limb function restored through Functional Electric Stimulation (FES) – a therapy that uses electricity to push muscles into action and retrain the central nervous system.
